APG II (2003), Classification for the orders and families of flowering plants: APG II Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society141: 399-436. Non-angiosperm data based on Judd, W.S. et al (2002) Plant Systematics: A Phylogenetic Approach 2nd ed., Sinauer Assoc; (ISBN: 0878934030).
hover over a ‘leaf node’ to show the families within that order
Functions
Zoom — into or away from parts of the tree
Rotate — move the tree clockwise or anti-clockwise
Locality — number of nodes shown around the current node
Back — navigate back to previous cladogram (if any)
Notes
It helps to do three things when using the Phylogeny Browser:
resize the browser window to occupy the full height and half the width of your screen
use the browser window scroll bar to position the java applet fully in the window
select the Locality drop-down button and move the slider to the right 2 or 3 steps. (The focus of the tree doesn't change until a node is selected.)
Hovering over named nodes is finnicky and needs a slow and steady hand. It will perform a live query of a database for that name and return a dialog box listing the families within that order — the active names are WA families and when clicked on will load a new browser window with FloraBase data. Likewise the three icons linking to external resources.
Move and resize this new window to occupy the other half of the screen. Subsequent queries will pop up in that window.
